While out for a walk around the farm the other day I checked the progress of the hackberry trees growing around an old farm implement in my pasture.
The trees seem to be pouring around the old machinery. One rod runs through the middle of both little trees....

Thats pretty cool Jeanie. Kinda like the tree is protecting the implement from getting stolen. I've never heard of a hackberry tree.
Thanks Mark,
I hadn't thought about it that way before, you're right, the tree could be protecting the implement. :)
I'm not sure what the implement is, maybe a swather. Sure looks old.
There are a lot of hackberry trees down here. They have little berry like things on them but I don't think they are edible. The trees seem to grow fast.
Hope you have a great weekend Mark!
wow,,,that's a cool place. Is it close to your house? I'd be tempted to make it a hangout like for campfires...except that now that I think about it there are probably snakes all up in there. I'm freakishly phobic about snakes,,JP knows I can't even see them on TV w/o my skin crawling.
But,,it really is a neat place.
Thank you Mrs JP!
It is close to my house. It's in a little pasture that I use for the horses when I'm riding a lot. I keep the horses close to the house when riding and out in the big pasture when I'm not using them.
It's kind of pretty out there, I do see the occasional snake though. :)
We had some trees like that on the farm I grew up on. Sometime a long time ago someone had used small trees as fence posts for barbed wire. the trees grew around and the barbed wire is now in the middle of the trees. Its really cool.
That sounds cool Boco Raton!
They sure seem to grow fast. :)
Wonder if I should put a time capsule inside the fork of one of the limbs. Think anyone would find it later? :)
Really great photo's. How long has the tree been "eating" the old machinery?
Oh, and I LOVE your weedeater!
Thank you Lone Cowgirl!
I know that the trees have been growing for the last 10 years, but I'm not sure how much longer than that.
I'm glad you like my weedeater. It works out great for me. :)
Thanks again!
