A couple of new babies..

The drought is still in full swing here, everything is brown..but the new calves are a nice sight running around the pasture. :)

I don't have a pic of a new white faced calf for Mrs JP but will try to get one soon. :)

Here's the proud poppa.

Life's good!  :)

With Memorial weekend coming up, I want to say thank you to all of the service men and women and their families. I appreciate what you are sacrificing for the rest of us.
Hope everyone has a safe weekend!

Grilled Marrow Bones with Parsley Salad

I was able to try out a new grill from the Char-Broil company recently. It's a nice little gas grill, just the right size for camping or for table top grilling.  It's a Char-Broil TRU Infrared Grill 2 Go, runs on those little green propane bottles. VERY easy to set up and nice & light for me to carry.

For my first cook, I grilled up some marrow bones (my favorite snack) and topped the treat with fresh parsley salad.

The grill worked perfectly, was easy to use and easy to fold away when through cooking. I'm going to love this thing!  If you get the time, please check out the recipe and post on the Char-Broil Live site...

Thanks!

Spring is in full swing here. The pastures are still brown and dry but the cows are calving and I have new baby chicks and ducks.
Spent last week in Texas on a spur of the moment trip. Everything looked so green and lush down there. I almost hated to leave. :)
Hope everyone is doing well and having a nice week!

Grilled Quail n Wild Onions

One of those simple meals. :)
I enjoy wild onion season and I like to use them when ever possible while they're here. Usually cook them with venison but opted for a few grilled quail this time.

I seasoned the quail with salt and pepper.

Browned them in a bit of butter over the fire to give them color and for the pan drippings.  Then let the quail finish cooking over the fire....

Gathered a few wild onions....

sautéed the wild onions in the pan drippings until they were tender...

Added flour to thicken, pinches of thyme and marjoram. Beef stock, bay leaf and wine...

Served with a wild rice blend...

Not a fancy meal but I like it. :)

Spring has finally arrived! In fact it kind of flew by. The temps have already hit 100F but mainly are staying in the 80s and 90s.  The cows are calving and the barn cats have kittens.
Lots of activity going on around here right now. I'm behind in posting but plan on taking some time to catch up.
Hope everyone is enjoying spring and keeping safe from the storms!
