I have known Smokin' Pal Sterling from Big Poppa Smokers for a few years now and have really enjoyed sharing smoking and grilling recipes and ideas with him. He's one of the kindest folks I've ever met.
Sterling completely floored me by sending one of his special Big Poppa Engineered Stainless Steel drums to me. Can't believe his generosity and can't believe this UDS! It has everything! :)
The Big Poppa Smokers crew did their research before putting this unit together....
There are two sliding adjustable air intakes on the bottom.
The adjustable exhaust outlet on the lid...
The hot coal basket with extended "arms" for adjusting cooking height as needed..
The hot coal basket is held up by "U" bolts, just above the air intake holes...
and you can raise the basket to the next level of "U" bolts for high heat grilling...
The basket has a handle and comes with a handy lifting tool so you won't burn your hands. :)
The cooking grate...
The front of the drum has a rack for hanging tools, and there is even a bottle opener on the side.
Not sure if you will see this Sterling but Thank you!!! This UDS is amazing, I'm looking forward to using it. The hard part will be getting it dirty for the first time! It's just beautiful...

That is one killer UDS. Yep, it would sure be hard to fire it up for the first time... Can't wait to see what you cook in it.
That is a spectacular piece of equipment! Sweet!
Thanks 2 Tramps! I did the breakfast fatty test on it so far. Worked great!!
Hope you having a nice week. Thanks for stopping by. :)
Thank you Chris! It's almost too pretty to use. :)
Hay Jeanie! Sorry I havent blogged you in long time. I have been so buisey with the farm and getting hay put up and getting ready for hunting season.....Today I went back to catch up with your blog wow! you've been buisey too. Hope to do better about blogging you in the future. I also have missed getting those famous ((HUGGS)) you give!lol Hope you have a blessed day! Your friend Mark :)
That is a sweet looking machine Jeanie. The drum roller is key. At the pittsburgh Sams Club event last weekend, one team was using 4, one for each meat.
Been thinking about building one. But, I have one of your smokehouses on my radar screen first..;)
Have a good one,
Bill
Wow this is a nice present! I can taste the smoked turkey. I have a barely used Smokey Joe I found at our local free shed at the landfill.
Mark! Good to see you! It sounds like thing are busy on your farm..that's great! Glad to hear you have hay to put up too. It's kind of scarce in this part of the country.
Thanks for the reminder about hunting season. It really is getting close. :)
Thanks for stopping by Mark. Hope you aren't working too hard.
(((HUGS))) :)
Bill thanks! I bet you would really like a drum. But I agree, a smokehouse is something I couldn't do without. :)
I hear that a lot more competition cooks are using them. That's great!
Hope you are having a nice week. Seems like it shot by here pretty fast. lol
Thanks Randy! That's a great score on your Smokey Joe! I sort of wish there were landfills here. Maybe it's a good thing there isn't though. lol I have too many projects going on right now and I know I would find something that needed just a "little fixing" at a landfill. :)
Thanks for stopping by!
I wanted to build a UDS from a SS barrel but shied away at the price just for the barrel. It would be hard to dirty up such a work of art.
Larry it is hard for me to do that first cook in a new cooker. But looking at it sitting in the yard is too much... I have to cook something!! :)
