I really had my heart set on a bacon wrapped brat....

After several sandwiches while camping this weekend, I really had my heart set on a hot bacon wrapped brat. There was a campfire ban going on but the park attendant said propane was allowed.
I don't use propane while camping but had my weed burner for starting logs in the campfire...
so it just seemed like the thing to do.

My next problem.... I met "icky" thing number four.... The campground grill. :(
I am SO adding this to my list of "icky" things.. "icky" thing number three and "icky" thing number three part two

I had to muster up some courage to approach this thing... :(

I shoved the end of the weed burner into the cooker... placed a pot of brats in beer on top and stood back..

So far so good. :)
I simmered the brats for awhile, removed the pot from the fire and wrapped the brats in bacon..

fried some sliced onions then added kraut...

I covered the icky grill with foil, punched holes in the foil with a toothpick and added my bacon wrapped brats...

it worked great :)

I toasted my buns...

covered my hot bacon wrapped brat with onion kraut and spicy brown mustard...

I was so happy :)

That noise you just heard was the moan I let out...Good grief girl, that's just incredible !

Plus, I have never heard of a weed burner before, because I live in the city where you can breathe only by permission. I need to check that out.

:) Thanks Kris!
I use the weed burner around the farm but it comes in handy for starting a campfire.
I was glad I had it with me this weekend.
Thanks again, I appreciate you stopping by!

Wow, that cast iron skillet with the onions and bacon brats looks like a circle of love!
Way to get around, icky thing!!!

The very definition of "where there's a will, there's a way."

That weed burner reminds me of that contraption they rigged together to hunt the monster in Alien.

Thanks Mrs JP! :)
The brat turned out pretty tasty. :)

Haha... Thanks Kirby! :)
If I see an alien I'll definately give the weed burner a try!

That looks really good.
You had a weed burner with you when you went camping?
My brother carries a small portable propane grill with him when he goes camping. Said he picked it up on sale at a local box store.
I know the bacon and burgers he grilled on it turned out really good. :)
Happy Thursday!

Looks great... Your post reminded me of having to use one of those grills once up on Lake Cachuma... I had Heavy-Duty foil with me and I wrapped each grate! Worked great... And it kept all the 'Nasty' away from my food! As always, thank you for sharing your wonderful experiences.

Thank you Andrew! Great idea on wrapping the grates individually. I will have to try that next time. :)

That's pretty darned inventive Jeanie. Good thing you pack a weed burner around. That kinda sucks when the fire bans are on. It happens here quite often too. No rib eye over the open fire, no meat on a stick, no nothing.

Love the weed burner. I have one I call WPT or wicked propane torch. I use it to burn weeds, leaves, start charcoal and camp fires however i have never used it for cooking. Thx for the tip! brats looked killer by the way!

Cowgirl, those look like some pretty healthy brats. And I love onions. Yours are making me want to eat and I am still full from last nights BBQ.

I have been seeing brats on a few forums and blogs lately. I guess it's time to go over to the brat side.

Thanks Mark! I love that weed burner.. comes in handy around the farm :)
I thought of you when roasting that slice of bologna over the campfire the last campout. It's hard to beat meat on a stick sometimes.
Thanks Mark :)

Thank you Bushman! Aren't they handy to have around! :)
I like to take mine camping to light the logs.. works great!

Thanks Rueben! :) I like brats with onions and kraut. They are a lot better over a campfire but the weed burner did ok. :)

Thanks David! I really had my heart set on that hot brat. :)

Thanks Canadian Smoker! It wasn't as tasty as a campfire brat but it was better than another cold sandwich. lol
