Venison Stew

When canning venison the other day, I saved a few cubes of the meat for a batch of stew.

I seasoned the cubes with salt and pepper, rolled them in flour and browned in a bit of oil.
I brown a few cubes at a time.

removed the meat and sauted some onion and celery in the drippings....

added a couple tablespoons of flour and let it cook for awhile, then added my browned venison back to the pot....

I received a nice gift of Maggi cubes from cooking friend Marc in Georgia (thanks again Marc!!)

I added some beef broth to the pot, a garlic/onion maggi cube and a bay leaf....

I also seasoned the pot with salt, pepper, thyme and added some cubed potatoes.

After simmering all day, I added some corn during the last 30 minutes of the cook....

The venison stew was tasty, the meat was so tender....

I could have added carrots for color but I really do not care for cooked carrots, so I left them out. lol It was tasty and warmed me up anyway. :)

You are quite the mulligan mixer! You can join my hobo train anytime.

I am with you on the cooked carrots. If I do add them I usually add them very late in the process.

But please ... please ... please tell me more about the biscuits! They look like some thing I can whip up, considering I don't have any venison for stew. Looks like you spiced them up a bit too!

lol Thanks Marc! Thanks again for those Maggi cubes too. I've been using them a lot! :)

The biscuits are easy.. just use your favorite biscuit recipe and put shredded cheese and dry herbs in the mix before baking. I don't think I use the same herbs over and over.. I change up. lol

Thanks Mark! If you made a big batch it would be easy to can some for later too.
I'm glad you are interested in canning Mark, I'll share some of my recipes with you when you get your pressure cannner. :)

Thanks Pete!
I'll post the recipe. They are pretty much basic biscuits with herbs and shredded cheese added.
Thanks for stopping by! :)
