Simple things that make me smile :)

It's not the prettiest rose bush...
and the roses are wind blown and skimpy...
but it's my favorite thing in the yard.

I walked past the rose bush at least a dozen times today,
busy with work and deep in thought.

On my last trip past the bush, feeling tired and eager to call it a day,
I stopped to smell the sweet roses. They were amazing.... and instantly reminded me that the best things in life are free. :)

I picked a handfull, climbed into my pickup and drove to the top of the hill to watch the sun set.
It was a beautiful evening and it felt soooo good to slow down for a few minutes..

Yeah... I'm a sap. :)

this is funny, i searched all over my place for a blooming flower today and nothing. just one "ripe" peony, no roses yet. maybe i should be taking better care of my plants... yours look good though!

Looks like Hattie Burton. Do you know what it is?

Pid, I hope your bloom soon, I bet the peony smell wonderful!
I only have these roses and my old lilac bush in my yard... wish I had more flowers but he just don't do well in the harsh weather.
The pastures are filled with wild flowers so I really enjoy them in the spring.
I'm heading out the door, hope you have a great weekend!

Hi David!
It's an old fashioned rose bush...or shrub. I love the thing. I have to pick as many roses as possible before the wind blows them into the next county. :)

Hope you have a nice weekend!

Jeanie, Alberta is the "wild rose country", it even says so on our licsence plates. I don't remember seeing one on my place though, maybe I just was'nt looking for them. But I'm going to now. The best things in life are free.

we've been so dry here till yesterday i don't even have wildflowers in the pasture. whoever planted my lilac bush put it in the shadiest part of the yard, it had three blooms earlier this year. the first blooms i've ever seen on it in five years. they smell so good i wish it bloomed better.
you have a good weekend too

Larry that's exactly what was running through my mind the first 11 times I walked by the bush. lol I finally gave in and took the time...and I'm glad I did. :)
Hope you find the time to stop and smell them. Thanks Larry :)

Mark you are one of the luckiest men I know. I would love to live in a place that was considered to be wild rose country. :)
I googled your area and checked out some pics.. it's absolutely beautiful there.
Starting to think I need to live up there in the summer and spend my winters in Guam. lol Rueben's beach pics are so nice!

Mark the best things in life really are free.. friendship comes to mind. Thanks for yours. :)

Pid my lilac bush did the same thing but I think the weather and wind blew the blossoms away.
If I get some rain here I will definately send some your way. :)

I'm not at home right now.. but will be home in a few days. Hope it rained! lol

I just came across your blog and am lovin' it! Although I don't do a lot of the things you do I definitely wish I could (live in a tiny lil apartment) so we may be distant relatives ;) Anyway, enjoying your brave cooking and thinking about trying the cinderblock whole pig roast!

Thanks for takin' the time to shoot the rose. I have so so busy I haven't had time for much. Thanks again for sharing.
But if simple things make you smile, then you must get a grin a mile wide when you get a comment from me.
