They are so danged cute. It's hard to think of them as brisket, ribeyes, prime rib or even tacos..
She's a good momma....
Sometimes it's not easy raising your own food. lol At least when he is old enough to be processed, he won't be nearly as cute.

Oh, I love cow babies. I must admit that I have a special place in my heart for little white faced babies. Daddy somehow always managed to keep me away when it was "processing day." Especially if it was one we bottle fed for some reason! I'm to big a tender heart to deal with it. JP knows that, and that's why we only have pets. I name everything!!!
Mmmmm. Veal. Maybe you can talk him into being a champion bucking bull or something, then you wont have to eat him Jeanie. It seems to be alot easier when you buy your beef in the store. I used to find it kinda hard to sell the 4-H calf every year, but the incoming money seemed to over rule the sad feelings somehow.
lol Mrs JP, aren't they are so cute! I know what you mean about bottle babies.. easy to get attached to one of those. lol
lol Mark, I could start poking him with a stick to make him mean. lol
I imagine you've seen a fair share of mean bucking bulls... :)
It is a lot easier to buy food that someone else has raised and processed.. but I do like to know what I'm gettin'.
I bet it was hard to sell your 4-H calves.. hope they paid you well. :)
Hope your house and work are going well too. I know you must be keeping busy. It's good to see ya Mark! :)
Thanks....
Agreed! It can be hard to watch things go from 'cute' to plate! But it is by far better than NOT knowing where it came from or worse...what they did to it. That makes me more sad than the cuteness :(
Homegrown ribeyes and shrimp....for breakfast......in bed!!! Mmmmm.....
Sap :)
That's so true Apple Pie Gal. :) I like knowing my animals are treated like kings and queens.
lol Sap... and jerky!! :)
Hope you are having a great week!
Never had a problem selling my 4-H and FFA calves, got in trouble one year and could not have the name of my yearling posted at the fair, they did not like it that i had named him Lunch!
lol Bradley.. Thanks for the laugh! lol
A friend of mine just sent me a link to your blog! It is awesome!
Thank you Anna! Please thank your friend for me too. :)
Great photos! Uh, where is Bubbles? That's not him down on the grill below is it?
I think I'll stick to raising puppies. They're cute and fun to have sitting in your lap. Someday I'd like to raise some chickens but with all the dogs, too much trouble. At least when I harvest deer for my freezer I don't have any regrets. I remember the garden without any tomatoes and my Ford Explorer with the crumpled front end. Makes pulling the trigger on a doe or buck real easy...and tasty.
When my neighbor's fence got crushed by a fallen tree, we weren't too happy with the twelve full-grown beef cattle in our back yard. They ate my wife's flowers, knocked over the bird bath and wherever they left a pie, grass didn't grow.
Just hate buying food....don't know where it came from, how well it was taken care of, what was added to it, and just never tastes the same as homegrown!
That applies to both the pasture and the garden!!
He looks like a 'burnt ends' ta me...lol. Both are real nice lookin animals jeanie. :)
BTW.......I'm still gonna pass on the calf fries, if ya don't mind!!!!!!
Gene
good looking stock. momma cows not so nice when you venture between them and the babies! she may get meaner than if you'd poked her with red hot prod. separating can get interesting with protective mommas.
pid
I can imagine how hard it would be after all of the care you do to get them to the processing point.
lol Ralphy, that's not Bubbles. Thanks! :)
I agree Anonymous, Puppies would be a lot easier to raise! I also agree about the deer.. they can do so much damage. If you go out at night and shine a light on a crop field, they are usually covered with deer.
I hope your neighbor paid you for the damage..or at least gave you a few steaks!
Thanks Anonymous. :)
lol No calf fries for you Gene.. just means more for me! lol
I know you eat like a king...your homegrown beef, pork and veggies are awesome!! You've got it made...
Thanks Gene, hope Ed Jr.is doing better...
Pid, I agree! It can get interesting when it's time to separate them.
Hope you are having a great summer!
Thanks.. :)
They are so darned cute Chris.. I have to get past that and think of food for the next year.
Thanks Chris.. it's good to see ya. :)
