Just some lake pics...

From my last camp out.

I found a nice little beach at the lake. Actually the water was so low, there were several beaches in the area. I walked to the opening in the trees by the water, climbed down a few rocks and took a right.

As I walked down the beach I noticed animal tracks that stretched from the water to the trees..... or from the trees to the water.

There were several of these trails along the beach. I couldn't decide if they were made by turtles, muskrats...beaver or little alligators. :)

I made breakfast on the tractor rim of bacon...

french toast....

and fried eggs...

It was pretty tasty. :)

I returned to the little beach at night to see if I could spot the animals that were making the tracks...

I found large dog tracks and some large human foot prints....

I was too chicken to follow the trails into the trees...

Actually it was scary out there so I went back to camp. Yeah, I'm afraid of the dark. lol

I wouldn't want to be out there in the dark, either!

Your meal looks fantastic.
Have you done a post on how you season your pans?
I know there are lots of places on the internet to read about it, but I'd like to know how you do yours.

I'd like to know how you clean them, too, if you don't mind. Some people say soap and water but I was pretty sure soap isn't good for cast iron..

Glad to see you having fun at the lake. Please be mindful of the fact that just as some of the Best People spend time at the lake, some of the NOT best people also frequent the lake. Moonlight walks in the woods/beach are nice, but please use caution and don't walk alone.
OK, ex cop speech over. Glad your enjoying yourself and getting out and about. Keep it up.

Hay Jeanie! I know it's earley to be blogging. I got off work last night at 11:00 and had to come back at 6:30 this morning to cover for a friend. Good thing it's my friday! I wanted to say thats a mighty good looking breakfast you cooked! I can smell the bacon just looking at the pic.YUMMMM! My dad would tell me when i was a kid just starting to hunt that their was nothing out at night that's not out in the daytime. One night me my dad and my uncle were coon hunting out in the middle of nowhere. They would turn the lights off and sit and waite for the dog to tree. I'm sitting next to a big oak tree. The wind was blowing pretty hard can't hear anything. Then the next thing I know something licked me in the ear! Yea I screemed like a girl they thought it was funny! It was only my uncles coon dog lol! I hope you have a blessed day your friend Mark :)

Linda I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one! It was kind of scary out there. lol
I've not posted about the cast iron. It's easy to keep clean if it's seasoned well.
For new cast iron, it helps to season it several times before use.. three times at least. Rub it down with oil, lard or shortening. Then put it in a hot oven, heat it up well and I turn the oven off and let it sit in the oven overnight.
The more you use them the better too. The protective coating builds up. For cleaning I use both methods depending on what I cooked.
I have used a mild soap with a soft cloth before.. it doesn't hurt the cast iron if you give it a quick cleaning.
Some friends of mine are dead set against using soap... but their skillets take on an "off" flavor at times. The foods they cook taste like the last food that was in the skillet and a bit like rancid oil. If I fry fish in a skillet, I like to give it a quick soap wash with a soft cloth so the skillet doesn't taste like fish the next time.
When something sticks to the pan.. I fill it with water, set it on a burner or campfire for a few minutes to heat up, then clean with a soft cloth.
Before storing my cast iron I wipe it down all over with oil.

Hope this helps Linda.. they are great to use when seasoned well.. kind of heavy at times but sure put out some good food. :)

Thanks Linda!

I forgot to say...make sure the cast iron is completely dry before storing too. :)

Thanks for all the tips, Cowgirl.
All the stuff you fix in cast iron always looks great.

I do get dark out there by the lake don't it. The last time I went fishing in the dark I got startled by something that sounded like chewing next to me, and when I shined my flashlight there to see what it was, it turned out to be a family of skunks that had pulled my stringer out of the water and were feasting on my catfish! I decided they could have em! lol You sure have some pretty lakes where you live Jeanie, I can see why you have such a love for fishing.

Nice pictures Jeanie. I might be a little big afraid of the dark too, but I think it is more that I am afraid of what could be lurking in the dark that I can't see that spooks me the most. Bears, cougars, people etc. I think a little fear is probably a good thing.

I'd be leary of walking around your area too in the dark. Daylight might be a little scary too. lol
Hope you keep safe up there. :)
