This was actually my last meal while camping.. ribeyes, hash browns and fresh eggs for breakfast before heading home.
I lit my fire.. burned the wood down a bit, then set my grate on top..leaving enough room to poke the logs and hot coals when needed..
started my skillet of hashbrowns...
added a skillet with butter for the eggs and threw on a couple of seasoned steaks...
basted the eggs with the hot melted butter in the skillet to cook the tops...
It was a quick breakfast to make... and it was oh so tasty. :)

WoW...camping is fun, especially with kids, but steaks for breakfast is new to me;-) looks great anyway!!!
Thank you Marc! I love camping... my parents took me camping a lot.. I think that's why I still love it so much. It's great to take your kids with you. :)
Steak and eggs are served for breakfast in many restaurants around here. We don't eat very heathy meals sometimes. lol
Thanks Marc..
I am noticing the fact that there are TWO steaks. Either you were REALLY hungry or, you had a guest in which case I am extremely jealous!
Dave from MN
Holey Moley Jeanie
Six eggs, 2 steaks and a frying pan full of hash browns....
Did you really eat all of that or did Wiggles, Sugar and Red help ya? I'd be snoozin' after that breakfast and wouldn't get home on time....:)
Rick
lol Dave! You're going to be extra jealous when I tell you that there were three of us left for breakfast. :)
Thanks Dave...
Haha.. Rick, I had help eating all of that. In fact I gave that plate full away and had half a steak for myself. :)
It was closer to noon by the time I got the fire going and the food cooked. lol
Thanks Rick!
Looks like a great breakfast, Jeanie. Just my style.
If you'd like to try something a tad different and you like capers, the next time you do sunnyside eggs like that (and, yes, I baste them with butter from the pan too), after you pull the eggs from the pan, let the remaining butter brown just a bit and then add a couple spoonfuls of capers and a couple spoonfuls of the brine from the caper jar -- let them boil up a bit and them pour the capers and juices over the eggs. You won't need to add salt, and the sour/bitter of the capers is the perfect counter to the buttery richness of the eggs.
Chezjake that sounds wonderful! I love capers. :)
I make a similar sauce for campfire chicken using butter, lemon juice, capers and sherry.
I bet your sauce would be great over eggs. I think I might try it tomorrow for breakfast!
Thank you so much...and thanks for stopping by, it's good to see you!
That looks like a breakfast for champions to me. If you ever need any help with the eating part of that breakfast, I'm really not all that far away Jeanie.
You know - I believe I could eat that.
I wish there was a better way to cook over an open fire. anyone seen some new fire cooking devices?
I don't know. This looks like a public campground where they might have showers and toilets.
lol Thanks Mark! I'd share with ya.
:) Larry, Thanks! It wasn't fancy but tasted good at the time.
Haven't seen many new ways to cook over an open fire Anonymous. If there were, I'd probably give them a try... but I do love open fire cooking.
lol Anonymous. it IS a campground.. even had a fire ring. I met my friends there this same time last year. Not fond of campgrounds but the fishing was good. :)
You've probably answered this elsewhere, but did you make that grate yourself?
Hi Kirby,
The grate was made by a friend. It's 1" tubing with expanded metal. I use it with my tractor rim fire cooker....and take it with me when ever I camp. It's long enough so I can move pans out to the cool edges and I like to be able to add a log on one side if needed.
I love the thing. :)
Now that looks like a fine breakfast, all the better over an open fire. Is this in Texas?
John
Thank you John! This is in Oklahoma. :)
Nothing like a light, small breakfast (ha!).
Haha.. Chris! It definately filled me up for the day. :)
