Spareribs on the Fire

Sometimes I don't know what all the fuss is about cooking ribs. People do some interesting things to them. Rubbing ribs with a number of spices and flavor combinations, adding liquid, wrapping in foil, etc.. There's really nothing wrong with the flavor of good old simple pork ribs cooked low and slow over a wood fire.

I lit some logs in the tractor tire rim....

slathered a slab of ribs with bacon drippings, then seasoned with salt and pepper.... set them on the low heat side of the fire.

I flipped and rotated the ribs every so often for even cooking.

added a log to the fire when needed...

I forgot to soak any beans the night before so I had to doctor up some canned beans...

grilled the corn...

Called er good...

A couple of pork ribs, corn, beans and slaw...

The ribs slow roasted for 7 hours.. came out nice and tender. As I ate I though of how it took 7 hours to cook the meal but only about 30 minutes to eat it. lol
I did like them so I guess it was worth the effort.

Had a great time at the lake. Caught a few fish and enjoyed the quiet. Hope to post more cooks soon.

WOW! 7 hours. The best I've done is 4 hours. Patience is the key when it comes to ribs. Every once in awhile I do some in the smoker but I mainly prefer the charcoal grill. Looking Good!

Thanks Bushman! I planned on 6 hours but the wind played havoc with the heat at times.
You're so right about patience. It was hard to leave these alone, they smelled so good. lol
Hope all is well with you, have a great weekend!

Glad you got to go finally. It does wonders for the soul to get away. Went to my 40th high school weekend last weekend. It was a hoot.

Looks good Jeanie. Been thinking about trying some ribs on the grill like I did when I was a kid learning on the ole Webber Kettle.

Joe thank you! Your reunion sounds like a lot of fun. Can't imagine seeing friends after 40 years, I bet it was nice to catch up and see what everyone was doing.
I spent this last week in Texas. Had a nice time. Think I'll stay home for awhile now. :)
Thanks again Joe!

Chris thanks so much! It was pretty at the lake. Have been getting a bit of rain this year.
Hope you are doing good. Have you been camping any at all this summer? :)
Hope you get the chance to go!
I just got home from a week in Texas, loved being down there and visiting with everyone but it's kind of nice to be home.
Good to see ya Chris. :)

Very cool, that's dedication! I do steaks and stuff open pit but I can't imagine having to go 7 hours tending to that. Great technique!
