Sleepless in Oklahoma

I'm not sure what the final count was for the outbreak of tornadoes this weekend. Last time I heard, it was around 100.
The middle of the night storms bother me the most, the tornadoes are harder to see.

I spent most of Saturday night watching a storm blow by from my window in a Holiday Inn.
Between worrying about friends and relatives in the paths of tornadoes and the storm outside, it was a sleepless night.
Thank you to friends who have contacted me... I appreciate your concern.

The Woodward Okla tornado killed 6 people...

A few pics of debris from the main highway...

The route I usually take was blocked. Behind the theater, several houses were destroyed...

My heart goes out to those who lost loved ones and their homes.

Really glad to hear you've come out of it all unharmed.

Saying prayers for everyone down your way. Glad to hear that you are safe & sound.
Tornados are storms that I am darn happy we do not have to deal with around here. With the random hurricane that comes our way at least we get some lead-time to prepare. I do not think I could deal with how quickly tornados pop up.
Stay safe.

You are right to be concerned.
You are NOT sissy to take cover.
I now take the warnings & sirens seriously. My grand kids & great grand kids survived the Joplin EF5 tornado last year (barely.) Their house and all belongings were destroyed while they were in it. Pictures do not realistically portray the devastation. You have to actually drive thru what is left to understand it.

Thanks Joe, I know those hurricanes are horrible..they do so much damage. I don't like tornadoes but the middle of the night ones are the scariest. They can drop out of the sky over your head without warning.
Hope you stay safe too...

Dale I am SOOOO glad to hear your family is safe. What a nightmare to live through!! Houses and "things" are so unimportant when people's lifes are in danger.
Yes the damage from a tornado is unreal. I've helped a friend dig out and clean up after a direct hit. You pick up the personal items, photos, anything you can find, then remove the large debris...then it gets down to the small shards of glass, paper.. shreds of things that you can't identify anymore. I know it sounds silly but there is no end to it...you can only pic up so much by hand, but they don't make vacuums for the rest of the shredded things laying around.
I've also lost friends to a tornado. One minute they had a wonderful life and the next thing you know their place is gone. It's strange driving by the empty pasture where their farm house stood. Nothing there but memories.

Dale.. I hope you and family stay safe. Give them extra hugs when you can.

Yes Mrs JP, everything is fine here. A few limbs in the yard and that's it.
Thank you!!

Kirby thank you!! I have a nice cellar to use when the weather is bad. That's one thing I'm very thankful for. Many of my friends don't have one. I think everyone in the state should have some sort of shelter.

I've known people who have left CA because of the occasional earthquake. I'm not sure why. I guess tornados are the price you pay for that beautiful state you live in. Hell of a price though! Good to hear you and yours are ok. Prayers go out to those who where not as fortunate. ((Hugs)) A. Chris

glad the storms spared your place. this is a great time of the seasons but the weather in the central states can make it bittersweet too often. they're gonna hit somewhere every year no fail. i only hope there's no greensburgs or joplins this year.

Hey Mark it's good to see you. I know the tornadoes in your area must be bad, it would be hard to see them coming with the trees. Hope you stay safe too!
Thanks! :)
