Onion Sliders on the Grill for Richie

This is for 9 year old cooking friend Richie from Texas. :)
These sliders are easy to make and you can really add anything you like to the burger mix. Minced jalapenos, minced dill pickles, etc...

I combine
6 tsp of minced onion flakes
1 1/2 tsp of onion powder
2 tsp instant beef bouillon
1/4 tsp of black pepper
and 1/2 cup of water

After mixing well, add 2 pounds of ground burger ( I like the 85/15% fat burger). Mix well....you can use your hands to mix it. :)

Roll into 12 large golf ball sized pieces...

Form the balls into patties, making the outside edges thicker than the center. I use my thumbs to form the dent in the center. This will make the burgers cook evenly (and they won't look like hockey pucks when finished cooking:))

You can season them with more black pepper if you like, then grill them on a medium heat grill. (These can also be fried in a skillet on a stove)

I light one end of my grill for the burgers and leave the other side of the grill unlit. Not sure what kind of a grill you have, you might want to have your folks help you with the grill. :)

The burgers do not take long, depending on how thick they are. Usually around 15 to 20 minutes. Resist the urge to "squish" the burgers down with the spatula.. you want to keep all of the juice inside. :)

The best rolls to use are the King's Hawaiian sweet buns.

I'm not sure if you can use those Richie, you might check with your folks.

Place the juicy burger on a bun, top with a lid THEN "squish" the burger down with the palm of your hand to flatten it. Some of the juice from the burger soaks into the bun. The juice adds a lot of flavor to the bun (and squishing the burger flat is kinda fun :)).

For those that use cheese, add it now before "squishing".

Place the flattened sliders into a foil pan...

Cover the pan with foil and place them back onto the grill for 10 minutes with the GRILL TURNED OFF. Put them on the "cool" side of the grill. If you do these in the house, place them in the oven at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.

The heat "steams" the burgers and softens the buns..

You can either top with ketsup, mustard, or what ever your favorite is OR you can just dip them in the sauce and take a bite.

I have seen friends eat 6 or 7 of these little sliders at a time. :)

Hope you give them a try sometime Richie! Also feel free to tweak the recipe to suit your taste. :)
I'll think of some more recipes to share with ya!

Hah! Now I got the Mrs. hooked on this blog. Many cowgirl recipes are sure to show up on the weekly menu now.

Between Food Network, the Pioneer Woman, and Cowgirl's country life, our boy gets plenty of creative ideas. Maybe he'll rise to culinary stardom, too.

Thanks for your encouragement, CG!
