Headed down to my favorite place to hang out for the afternoon...
Drove in as far as possible...
then hit the cattle and deer trails.
I didn't see any wildlife this trip, not even any cattle...but the deer tracks were thick.
This old corral is in the middle of nowhere.
I guess at one time it must have been handy for rounding up cattle in the brush....
The grasses are starting to green up. No leaves on the trees yet but it's beginning to look like spring.
I found two little morels. I'll check back in a week to see if any more have popped out of the ground. :)
I made it back to the pickup in one piece....
It was a beautiful afternoon.... I really enjoyed the hike. :)

I spotted some wildlife in this posting. If you look close in the last photo you can see a faint reflection of the famously elusive "Cowgirl". I wish I could pick morels in my backyard.
lol Me and my "point-n-click" Kodak.
Thanks for the laugh Mike! :)
We've been checking every few days and have yet to find any morels yet - big hopes for this weekend though! My kids eat them like candy.
I love those mushrooms, we knew as soon as that first hot humid day hit we better be out in the woods quick to beat everyone else that went out hunting for them or you wouldn't get any! Since I have been out here in NY state, I don't even think they have them out here. The hubby seems to think they do but I have never heard of anyone getting them!
I wonder if you could hear the ghost cows...
I would like to have been able to go with you so I could learn the difference between morels and poisonous mushrooms.
Have a great day!
Jeanie is like Wilson from Home Improvement: She is there, she is real, but always mysterious... ;)
Nice pics. I've never tried a morel. Are they mild?
Thanks,
Bill
Nice to see green in your pictures again! Hopefully this will be the lead in to a better summer for ya'll. Fingers crossed. A. Chris
April, good luck with your hunting! I know they grow pretty large in your area of the US. I definately understand your kid's attraction to them. I love em too. :)
Thanks for stopping by!
Shoot Lisa, I hope you can still find some. Maybe it's too early in the season for you.
Good luck if you go back out! :)
lol Linda... I didn't hear any ghost cows but I did hear a mockingbird. It really did seem kind of quiet out there for some reason.
I didn't see any big cat tracks (thankfully!)
I bet you would like these morels. They are so tasty. Once you see what they look like, they are easy to tell apart from regular shrooms.
Hope you are having a great week Linda! Thanks :)
hahaaa Bill.. :)
I have a wooden fence around the cooking area, I should take a "Wilson" photo. :)
Morels aren't really mild, more earthy I guess. Hard to describe. I can't think of anything to compare them with.
Hope you give them a try sometime!
I still haven't had the time to post pics of your pulled pork pickled pizza. :) I really loved it!
Thanks again Bill...
Hey Chris...nice to see ya. :)
The area is looking nice right now. I'm taking full advantage of it and spending as many hours outside as possible. :)
Hope all is going well for you, thanks for keeping your fingers crossed and thanks for stopping by! :)
Hi Jeanie,
I am so jealous, we are still close to a month before the morels show up around here.
Happy Hunting! :)
Carolyn
