The Bacon Weave

I've had several requests for pictures of how to make a bacon weave. It's really easy...

I like to use thin bacon, it crisps up nicely and I love crispy bacon. :)

It takes about one pound of sliced bacon to cover a fattie.

I lay six pieces out on a piece of plastic wrap....

They come out neat and tight if you start in the middle and do one side first, then the other.

then weave the other side.

The plastic wrap helps in the rolling process...
Roll and tuck the sides in as you go.

ta-da :)

Smoke for about 4 hours...

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks for putting this up, I came very close to requesting it. Looks like others beat me to it.

Your weaves are the only ones I have seen on the diagonal. It makes a much nicer presentation. Putting one of these together is definitely on this summer's to-list.

You're sure welcome Jon! I've had a lot of requests for pictures of the weave.
The plastic wrap helps hold everything together as you roll.
I just tuck in the sides as I go and put the fattie on the smoker seam side down.

Hope it turns out well for you!

Thanks Jon. :)

You are the bomb, J! I like how you turn it on a bias so the angle of the weave catches your eye. Nice job.

Larry (Big Dude) and I had lunch with another food blogger on Friday and you came up in the discussion, we were braggin' on ya:)

My father in law just sent this and I thought of you. The pictures are great.

Handmade ground beef patties, topped with sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in a bacon weave, then the next step, add hot-dogs as the heads, legs with slits for toes and trim to a point for the tail.

Next step. Place on an oven rack, covered loosely with foil and baked for 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees. A little crispy, not too crunchy...just how a turtle should be, no? -- yours of course will be on the grill.

Thank you Anonymous!! I've seen pictures of the bacon wrapped turtle...it looks so cute! :)
I'm going to have to give it a try sometime.
Thanks for thinking of me and thanks for the inspiration. :)

OMG - I just made my first Bacon Weave Fattie - this is so simple and taste great. I marinated ground beef in bourbon, steak seasoning, stuffed with granny smith apple, blue cheese and red pepper. No smoker, so I just grilled my fattie. Photos and video are in my Youtube Video at minute 6.
