Wild Turkey....Not the Drinkin' Kind :)

There have been several wild turkeys parading around my house the last few weeks. Right now, there are 3 hens, 4 large toms and 4 smaller toms. I'm pretty sure the hens are the same ones who had nests close by last year.

The larger toms follow the hens around the yard, puffed up and pretty. :)

The hens almost seem oblivious to the toms. The girls just walk around the yard eating bugs while the toms spread their tail feathers and quietly follow.

These two looked so majestic, puffed up, tail feathers spread, wings "cupped" at their sides, slowly dancing in circles..... They were quietly trying to attract the attention of the hens.

They were putting on quite a show. I didn't notice until I looked at the pictures later... they seem to be looking back at me to see if I was watching. lol

The 4 larger toms...

They are so majestic, pretty and ugly at the same time. :)
I'm looking forward to seeing how many little ones they hatch.

Hmmmm.... does this make me a bird watcher? :D

I love your turkeys we have ones here that look just like yours, but they are not wild.

We purchased two turkeys when they were little and it turned out they were both Toms. So we went back and they sold us another that is a female as I did not mind having two Toms. Well the other day the Toms were in mortal combat and I needed to break them up. I think that we will be eating turkey dinner soon as they are going to kill each other and I would rather have one and dinner, if you know what I mean. The one we thought was a girl we named Merl and I think he is the one destined for the pot.

Hey do you have a root cellar? I built one and want some tips on curing hams and such. You are my go to source for all things food.

It would be great if you could do a post on the dos and don'ts of ham curing and bacon,.

Thanks

Jim

Jim that's great about having turkeys!! Sorry to hear they are fighting but they will be good eatin'. :)

I do not have a root cellar but have a regular cellar/basement/tornado shelter. I keep my canned goods down there and it serves as my pantry too.
I'll try to do some posts about bacons and hams. Just made some Canadian and Peameal bacon. They are getting eaten up too fast to store. lol

Hope all is well with you! :)
