It was a nice day :)

I had the chance to check out my favorite little fishing lake the other day. I was glad to see that the water level was much higher than last summer.

I can't go to the lake without taking my fishing "stuff"......just in case.

Looks like my fishing sneakers should make it through the summer. :)

The fish weren't biting so I went for a walk.

Some of the grass in the lake...

The little path leads to a good fishing spot...

The wooden bridge...

The hole in the bridge reminded me of an ice fishing video I watched the other day. A huge pike with sharp teeth came out of the hole making me jump a mile. (yeah I'm a wuss) :)

The foot bridge...

The area still needs moisture. If you can see the little white spots in the distance, they are These things .

I wanted to get a pic of the fence. When new fences are built, they are built on the inside of the property line. Most ranchers remove the old fence.... but some leave them.
There can be miles and miles of old fence....the wooden posts are prized as fire wood for outdoor cooking around here. The wood is almost petrified from 20 to 30 years of "seasoning". They are perfect for underground cooks. :)

The trip to the lake made me hungry for catfish so I thawed some of last summer's catch...

I seasoned the fish with a cornmeal, flour, cayenne, salt and lemon pepper mixture...

sliced a potato and seasoned with the catfish mixture too..

The tatoes....

Catfish, tatoes and tarter sauce...

I enjoyed the meal. :)

It was a nice day even if the fish weren't biting. :)

Fried catfish is always a winner, but you forgot to mention what brand of beer you chose to compliment the fish. Me, I like Shiner Bock beer.

Thanks Larry, I've had fish on my mind since I saw yours. They taste so good. :)
I thought about making hush puppies but the tatoes were quick and I my tummy was growling. lol
Thanks again Larry...

I love fresh catfish Rich...and I do love Shiner Bock too! :)
This was a Coors Light. The only beer I had on hand ... it was icy cold.
After spending the afternoon at the lake, the fish and cold beer tasted great. I'm definately ready to go again. :)
Hope you are having a nice week.
Thanks Rich! :)

Hello Cowgirl. Cookin Willie here. You said that they farmers leave the old wooden post up and others use them for cooking. What type of wood is the old fence post? Is Coors beer the only beer you drink? Its funny that most people I talk with that live back east of the Rockies drink Coors beer. When it is in my back yard for me.

Glad to see your lakes are filling up and your catfish looks perfect! If you've never tried it...get some corn flour and roll your fish in it. Same flavor, less grit.

Beautiful bunch of pictures Jeanie. I'm just dreaming of doing some fishing sometime, and I know my turn is coming soon. You're making me jealous.

how in the world are water levels above last year there!? that fishing talk is an epidemic apparently, you're talking about the best fish to munch on and my friends got me chomping at the bit for some large mouth bass action. spring needs to get here.. plus turkey season is all up in this mix. great time of year coming!

Hi Willie, how have you been? Hope you are still dutch oven cooking!

The fence posts are Osage Orange (also called Hedge apple or Bodark). It burns hot and long. The posts are so old they are really solid. lol

I do like Coors Light... also Dos Equis XX, Shiner Bock, sometimes Pacifico... hmmm... I like to try new ones every once in awhile. The last new one was Shock Top Belgian White.
My standby is Coors Light. :)

Hope all is going well with you Willie, thanks for stopping by!

Hi Capt. Ron! How have you been?
I was relieved to see the water level too. Maybe this will be a better summer than last.
Thank you for the tip on the cornflour, I will try it.
Thanks for stopping by too. :)

Hey Pid, how are you?
I was amazed at the water level but so happy. It hasn't rained here at my place but the little lake is about an hour or so away.
They must have had rain.
Large mouth bass sound great! I'd be happy to catch anything though. lol
Hope you have a great weekend. Thanks!

I love catfish and hush puppies. I used to know this place on the NC/SC boarder than had a all you can eat catfish and hush puppy dinner. Looks just like your Jeanie.

I remember skinning my first catfish. An experience for sure...

Thanks Cowgirl. Yep still Dutch Oven cooking. Here in about 3 weeks headed to the World Championship to compete. I'LL mail you another cook book. I was just wondering what the fence post was, since you said that they are so desired after. We have cedar post mostly. Not good for smoking or any type of cooking.
You should look for a Beer call Fat Tire. Really good taste. I am a Budweiser drinker mostly. If I can get my hands on good Corona Beer like 6% then I will drink that. Nothing like a Corona with a lime in it. I will have to email you to talk more.

Hi Jeanie! Lake is lookin' good. Hoping for a bit more rain for ya. Got in some trouble at work last week. Hoping to get suspended for a couple of days. Need a chance to break in the new reel I bought at the BPS a few weeks ago. It's nice to have a job but..... Another Chris

cowgirl said...

Hey Chris! Hope the trouble isn't too serious. A fishing trip does sound nice though. :)
Congrats on your new reel! Hope you get to use it soon. I need one too..well I think I do. lol
One of my reels sort of fell apart last time I used it. I guess it was just worn out. :)
Hope you get to take that fishing trip Chris. :)
