Wild Turkeys, Catfish n Okra

The wild turkeys have been thick around the house this spring. They seem to be used to me, they aren't afraid of me when I walk around the farm doing chores. They like to gather underneath the horse feed troughs, catching any spilled grain. The dog leaves them alone,  he knows they are welcome here. :)

I enjoy watching them. Won't be long before the hens go off to sit on their nests and the toms will disappear for awhile.

This was actually an indoor meal!
Grabbed some of last summer's catfish out of the freezer and okra from last year's garden..

made a cornmeal fish fry with lemon pepper, cayenne, salt and a touch of flour...

Used my handy Bass Pro thingy...

I love this thing, It' coats the fish perfectly...

Fried til golden....

I like to use the same fish fry mixture for okra . Dipped the okra in an egg-milk bath first that had onion and garlic powder added.  Then into the handy Bass Pro thingy for a coat of fish fry...

fried til golden too...

I can eat these like popcorn!

Went with a Henry's hard soda to wash it all down....

I love fried catfish and okra. Such a simple meal but it tastes so good.

Haven't had the chance to go fishing yet this year but I'm ready! There are still a few fish fillets in my freezer, but I'm overdue for a good camp trip and some campfire cookin'.

The weather has been pretty nice here the last week or so. I'm still working on the chicken coop and garden. It's the kind of work that makes you tired at the end of the day, but it's a GOOD kind of tired. I sleep well. :)

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Thanks for stopping by!

That is simply amazing about the turkeys, ours run if they see anyone at 100 yards and I haven't shot any. So many coyotes that the ones that survive must be truly wild.
I love catfish and okra like that but have never had them together but I can see how it would work out good.

That's interesting Sunnybrook... Aren't they fun to watch!
The turkeys here know when I'm feeding, they come running when they hear the squeaky grain bin door open. :)

I've got a coyote and bobcat problem too. Not sure where the turkeys are roosting, but I know it's close by. The numbers have really grown in the last 3 years.

Hope your week is going well! Thanks for stopping by. :)

Awesome as always! I miss seeing you around!

Graduation time so it's time to thank you again for showing me how to cook a whole pig in a cement block cooker. Last year I cooked on for my bosses daughter's party, this year, my daughter's party, and it looks like I'm on the hook for the next several years for partys. As always, the pig was one of our home grown ones and it came out awesome! I went over the top a bit and smoked several pans of cheesy taters and ABTs. Thanks again.

Thanks so much Oneeye, I miss visiting with you too. :)
Fantastic about your cooks!! I bet the hogs were delicious! :) Your cheesy taters and ABTs sound awesome too. Great that the block pit has worked out so well for you, I'm glad to hear that. They aren't fancy but they put out some good eats! :)
Thank you for stopping by and for letting me know about the cooks. I appreciate it Oneeye. Sounds like you might be going into the hog cookin' business soon. :)
Good to see ya!!
