Spring Calves

I love this time of the year. Found a litter of kittens in my shop,  the hens are settin' on eggs, it's actually rained a bit this last week...... Best of all the calves are popping up around the pasture.

Sometimes it's hard to find them but if I stand in the back end of the pickup with a pair of binoculars, I can spot them in the tall grass. :)

I love it when they see me for the first time. They're not quite sure what to think of a human.

I just love the babies..... They are so cute. :)

The larger they get, the tastier they look though. :)

Oh, the many blessing of Spring:)
Calves are so cute. I had the good fortune of helping a mother cow in distress. We had to use a come-a-long and it was such an adrenaline rush. I was so excited that I asked if I could name it, and was looked at rather strangely, but the answer was certainly. I pondered over names. Make a daisy wreath and went back to the ranch three days later to crown my little "Sweet Daisy" and take her photo. There she was in a field of thirty or so other calves . . . which one was she? . . . no one knew, LOL. The ranchers got a big laugh out of me, but it was an experience that I will never forget. Being a part of new life is amazing:)

lol Great story Connie!! :)
Not many folks get to experience pulling a calf. It's not pleasant but necessary at times.
I'm sure your "Sweet Daisy" and her momma remembered you. Nice job! :)
Thanks for stopping by, it's good to see ya.

I love this time of the year too Jeanie. The weather has been pretty fine up here lately too. Your critters are looking pretty happy and healthy.

Dang it Mark, it's been a long time. :) Hope all is going well with you!
Glad to hear your weather is good and you made it through winter.
Hope Traction is doing well too. :)
Have any canoe trips planned this summer?
Great to see ya, thanks for stopping by!

Ya, I did a lot of canoeing last summer and am planning to do a fair bit summer too. Going to do one I have been wanting to do for quite some time now. The Athabasca river from Hinton to Whitecourt, providing the weather and everything cooperates. That will be about 4 to 7 days I think depending on who all goes and how much we all want to diddle daddle along. I have a little bad news about Traction. She died peacefully in her bed Sept 26 2014. She didn't quite make her 14th birthday. She was still quite active most of the time right up until that day. I don't know. I took a little break from the blogging(and the building) and it's kinda hard to get back into it. lol. Someday Jeanie.

Really sorry to hear about Traction Mark. She was a sweet friend...
14 years together, you two knew each other better than anyone else could. I know she was blessed to have such a happy home. So sorry for your loss Mark..

Your canoe trips sound great!! Thanks for the video, it looks like a blast. It's so beautiful up there!

Sending many (((HUGS))) your way!
