Some Deer Camp Food

Deer season was fun again this year. We ate too much...also spent many late nights enjoying the stories and laughter.
It was nice to see everyone again.

Seems like we were constantly eating... I skipped making lunches but made a few breakfasts and supper every night.

We had fun on beef cheek taco night...

Dined on biscuits and sausage gravy...It's so easy to make when you're in a hurry.

A beef short rib meal.... with baked potato and smoked pepperjack cheese.

Smoked ham....

with smokey potatoes and bacon wrapped bacon...

Canadian peameal bacon on biscuits...

Pan fried chicken...

Lots of pancakes...

with beef cheek hash and eggs.

Thanksgiving dinner... right in the middle of deer season.

I put a little of everything on my plate....

and didn't make it very far.

More biscuits and sausage gravy....

Smoked meatloaf and garlic smooshed potatoes....

also some cayenne/brown sugar/whiskey smoked spam.

The smoked meatloaf, garlic smooshed tatoes, fried hominy with bacon...

I don't think I ate for a week after deer season! Overall it was a nice to see everyone. I'm looking forward to next year. :)

I wish I lived closer. I'd love to have you teach me to cook like you do.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all! :-)

If I bring a James McMurtry CD and some really dark beer and promise to wash the dishes and do all the gutting, can I come stand downwind of Deer Camp someday?

Solstice Bonfire? Got to welcome the return of the sun. Vanquish Ragnorok. Have an excuse to stand outside near a fire.

Linda that would be great to have you for a neighbor! I bet you are a fantastic cook.
Hope you and family have a safe trip and a wonderful Christmas.
Thanks! :)

lol Neanderthal you would fit right in! :)
There aren't many dishes ( I used paper plates) but the help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the Solstice reminder too!! Surely with this blanket of snow on the ground, the burn ban has been lifted. :)
A fire in the tractor rim sounds great!

Thanks Neanderthal! If I don't see ya, hope you have a wonderful Christmas. :)

I think on the solstice one can say 'screw the burn ban' if one is careful and conscientious and does not live within sight of nosiness.

For the record, I am shamefully far more likely to offer to do the dishes if I am already pretty sure paper plates are in play but I am a fairly good gutter.

Let us all know when you start catering.

Peace. Be safe and well.

Dang Jeanie
I don't check-in for a few days and I miss 3 posts. I checked to see how the storm affected ya. OK, I see, you and the dog seem to up to your usual mischief;).....and I find out that neanderthal has applied for the dish washer position at 2012 deer camp...:) I would like to volunteer for the security guard/bartender/food tester position...lol
I've never had a house as camp "headquarters" My deer camps consisted of a bedroll and some comfortable rocks to sleep on. Oh those were the days....;) LOL
Anyhow I'll be awaiting the comfirmation to be the security/bartender/food tester at "Cowgirls 2012 Food Fest aka Deer Camp"
We hope ya have a great Christmas.

lol Neanderthal, I think I could get away with a fire then. :)

Gutting skills are always needed...and they are more important than the dishes! :)
Thanks Neanderthal.. hope you have a great Christmas! :)

lol Rick, we could definately use a food tester bartender security guard! :)
I bet your deer camps were great. I'd even like the rocks to sleep on. :) My house is in a good location, if you can't find a deer while out, you can usually see them from the front porch.
Hope you have a great Christmas Rick!! Thanks...

Amazing meal. You could charge $25 a plate as a blog-nic/fundraiser, and fans would come from miles away just to eat some of your culinary masterpieces.

Thank you for this inspiring blog, and may 2012 be your best year ever.
