Wild Grape Wine Time

These are some of the wild grapes I gathered earlier this summer. I've made several batches of jelly and saved enough juice to make a batch of wine.. :)

I make it the same way as the sandhill plum wine... well ANY fruit wine. lol

I put 4 cups of sugar into a one gallon glass jug, add one package of yeast... swish around to stir a bit...

add 4 cups of fruit juice... swish around again to stir a bit...

fill the jug the rest of the way with water... swish again....

Top with a balloon and wait for 3 weeks...

I have about one week left before bottling this batch.

Just strain through cheesecloth or even a coffee filter, then bottle.

Should keep me warm this winter. lol

Interesting.....very, very, interesting. :)

Thanks for sharing your secret recipe. The south part of our place was an old vinyard and the vines still produce a little bit. Sooooooo maybe I can beat the longhorns to them next year. lol

Hmmmmm....I'll check there might be some left this year.....

I roto-tilled the area for a garden last week, now to get some compost, and manure worked into the soil. We haven't had a garden in a long time. I have time to care for it now, so maybe next year.

Have a great weekend....

Thank you Marc! I have a feeling it won't be half as tasty as the wine you're making. :)

Thank you Andrew! I use plain ole fast acting yeast that comes in a little packer.
Really fancy wine... lol

Are those a type of muscadines? The leaves are a differnet shape than the ones we have here if they are. They are beautiful. My grandfather used to make wine with the wild cherries that grew on the property and he would let us try a little. Looks like a fun project.

Great wine recipe Cowgirl! Thanks fer sharing. Ive never made wine before. Do you boil the grapes to make the juice or do you just mash them? Also, does it matter which yeast you get from the grocery store? ~Jen

Your wild cherry wine sounds great!

Thanks Jen!
I do boil the grapes to get more juice. The yeast is just one of those little packets used in bread baking.
Good luck with it! :)

Wow, bread yeast, talk about the wrong tool, any homebrew stores in your area? better yeast will give you a smoother cleaner wine.

Hey cowgirl,
Funny you should post about wine. I've had this urge to make some sort of fruit wine. Have you tired apples? The orchards are all ready to go here in Michigan and the apples are plentiful. Got any tips? I know I could search the internet but I prefer home made advice. Thanks in advance.

Hey Bushman, apples work great! All you need is 4 cups of the juice for 1- one gallon jug of wine.
You don't need to peel and core the apples, just cut up...add to a pot with a small amount of water to keep them from burning and simmer til soft. Then smash and strain the juice.
Hope it works out well for you! :)
