Catfish on the Campfire

While kicked back in my fishin' chair listening to some music, enjoying the fresh air and view.... I decided to check my bait. It had been awhile since I had a bite and decided the fish had probably stripped my line clean.

Bringing the line in, I noticed something attached to the hook...

I brought in the smallest catfish I had ever seen....

My first thought was Oh how cute! My second thought was ....oh great, I'll never hear the end of this.

This was worse than catching my usual stick. lol

Luckily I caught bigger fish so I could participate in the Saturday night campfire fish fry. :)

the nuggets...

fries....

building a large bed of hot coals....

heating the oil....

two pots of fish frying and one pot of fries....

It was soooooo tasty. :)

By the way...I did throw Nemo back. :)

Oh My!! That looks so good. My kind of 5 star there. I just fried up a batch of blue gills left over from ice fishing over last winter. They were so good.

Wow, nothing better than fried catfish and fries, except maybe a few hush puppies. I love all the posts that you make, it inspires and gives us city folk something to dream about! Best..........Rick

Rick Thank you! I agree about the hush puppies.. they are my favorite and I'd rather have them with fish.. My friends voted for fries this time.
Next time I'm making hushpuppies! :)

Thank you for checking out my blog too Rick, I appreciate it.

Your little catch reminds me of the time I took a couple of my son's friends fishing for their first time ever. The little girl was so eager and quick on the trigger, she ended up hooking a bluegill by the tail and yanking him out onto the bank.

What's on your playlist?

That sure looks good. I'll vote for the hush puppies too.

BTW, would you mind sharing your recipe for the batter for fish fries? I'm guessing it's pretty simple, but I've learned that little variations can make for big differences in the final result.

Ha! Kirby I know how she must have felt. lol
My playlist is a strange mix of things... From Stephane Grappelli's Sweet Georgia Brown to KanNal's All Things Change... some Joe Bonnamassa..(So Many Roads)...Buckethead. :) Stevie Ray Vaughan's Pride and Joy...
Blues, rock, the latest Battle of the Bands CD. lol
I love all music. :)

Thank you ChezJake!
I use a seasoned cornmeal fish fry. Not a batter.
I let the fish nuggets sit in salt water overnight (chilled)then drain and sprinkle with lemon juice.. let them sit while the oil heats then shake in a bag full of cornmeal mix and then fry.
My favorite store bought mix is Zatarain's lemon pepper fish fry.
When making my own I use equal parts flour and cornmeal then add salt and cayenne pepper.
Nothing special. :)
