My Horizontal Breakfast

Not breakfast in bed... (I wish!)...breakfast on the horizontal... :)

Sometimes I use my horizontal for grilling.. I love it, there is so much grilling surface..

I started a skillet of potatoes and onions first..

then made the hollandaise sauce...

whisked three egg yolks with a squeeze of lemon juice... then added butter 1 tbs at a time.

after the sauce had thickened, I removed the pot from the fire..

grilled slices of ham...

fresh gathered eggs ...

fried the eggs and toasted the english muffins....

I slid the cooking grate to the side, off the fire to snap a pic. (didn't want to burn anything. :))

It was so tasty, reminded me of breakfast while camping. :)

Hi

See you have a range of egg colour there - what chickens do you have.

Best wishes

Evelyn

Hi Evelyn!
I like to keep heavy breeds, I use them for both meat and eggs.
I've got some buff orpingtons, rhode island reds, marans, barred rocks...araucanas, black giants..
several "home grown" birds.
I let some of my hens hatch out a clutch in the spring and use them as replacement hens or for canning.

Every so often I like to get a batch of cornish birds to raise for the freezer (or can).

I try to keep my flock at about 25.
Seems to keep me in enough eggs and meat. :)

Best wishes to you too! :)

Your egg basket looks a lot like mine, some brown, some green.
But my breakfast doesn't look anything like yours. If I come over will you cook me breakfast? LOL

Isn't it always a joy when all of the prep work comes together in the finished product?

Good job Jeanie!

Ron, you are so right! I have the timing down from making this breakfast on the campfire so often. The danged sauce needs so much attention, I make it first because I know everything else would burn while I stir it. I always keep my fingers crossed that it will turn out. lol
Thanks so much Ron! :)

lol Sap... In my dreams! :)
I can't remember the last time I had breakfast in bed.. not counting the times I take a bag of pretzels back to bed with me after staying up too late. lol

Thanks Sap...

Wow, you amaze me!...not only do you have more grills than anyone that I know. You know what to do with all of them.

Thank you Capt. Ron! I do have quite a herd of cookers...
I said I wouldn't build anything else after the Drum... but I'm working on a new little cooker in my spare time now. lol

Jeanie
Great looking breakfast. I wish I could cook meals like that on a stove....lol
Make sure ya post pictures, etc. of the new cooker.
I'm still struggling with stuff on the drum (1 step forward 2 steps back)...lol :)

lol Thanks Rick! From the looks of the things you cook outside, I know you can probably cook on a stove too!
Thanks. :)
