Just some pics...

The bugs and hot weather have taken a toll on my garden but I'm still gathering a few things...

I have no idea where his tail feathers went. I know is wasn't Wiggles the pup, she's still quite a bit smaller than the chickens and keeps her distance...

I have a feeling he was de-feathered by my other rooster..

I had to use the bottom of my OU t-shirt ...

I know.... lol.....who would go out to gather eggs without a basket..... but would take a camera?

I wish my garden still looked that good. The heat and no rain for the past month has fried it. I have managed to keep a few hot pepper plants alive but just barely. Even my hens seem to be sluggish in this hot weather and egg production is poor. At least I still have enough to keep me from buying eggs from a store.

Jeanie, do you try and keep your tomato plants going into the fall to where you can get a crop of green tomatoes? I don't know if you're far enough north that it would be a problem or not? That is the nice thing about living in the Dallas area, we can carry the tomatoes over and get a fall crop of green tomatoes for canning.

He still holds his head high, proud as a peacock. If only he had a look at himself in the mirror. lol. He would probably bury his head in the sand like an ostrich. It has been kinda bad weatherwise here for growing things too Jeanie. Pretty hot (for us) and dry here also. Until now that the farmers are trying to get there crops off, it has started raining a bunch.

Funny. I always take a camera. Or have the one on my phone. I have said," Damn I wish I had my camera way too many times."
My garden has been awesome this year and we've been eating like kings from it. Not to mention canning. The watermelons are the favorites right now. hard to believe there will be frost in about 6 weeks. Boooooo
PS I made your bierocks the other day. Although mine were cabbagier. LOL They were delicious all smothered with a mushroom gravy. I gave you props on my blog for it. Thanks again!

George it sounds like you are getting the same weather as me. I'm not ready for winter but a cool spell would feed good. A cold front came through the other day and it got down to the 80's... I had to put on a jacket in the evening, it felt so cold after 105 degrees. lol
If another cool spell comes through, I'll send it your way.
Glad to hear you are still getting a few fresh eggs!
Thanks George...

Ron, I do keep them going until frost. Last year I put up a shade to keep the plants producing during the heat of the summer but I didn't do that this year.. I should have though. They won't bloom when the temperature gets into the high 90's and 100's but will start producing when things cool back off to this fall.
I'm basically keeping the vines alive until then...but I've had enough tomatoes to keep me fed. :)

I love green tomatoes... :) I make twangy pickles with the small ones and slice and can the larger ones for frying.
Now I'm hungry for fried ones. lol
Hope you have a huge crop this year..
Thanks Ron! :)

:) Mark, he does look pretty funny... I guess the girls don't mind though. lol
It must be a hot year everywhere!
Could you send a bit of that cool weather and rain down this way please?
You didn't set out any tomato plants this year did ya? I remember you had a good crop last year.

Hope you have a great week Mark, don't get bogged down in all that mud. :)
Thanks!

Jeanie
We've had some really nice cool weather here for a couple of days BUT temps are supposed to start up again tomorrow. Today it barely made 70* I'm sending it your way:)
Wiggles the pup? You didn't share that, with your loyal fans. Is she a border collie? I'm kinda looking for another for us,too. Have a good week.

Rick

Thanks Anonymous! It is nice to have the space out here that I need...but I try to keep the garden to a manageable size for me. :)

Hey Rick! Thanks for the cool weather. :)
I don't have "fans" I have online friends. :)
Wiggles is a border collie pup.. I posted her pic a week or so ago. She's been a lot of fun and good company.
Let me know when/if you get a new pup too, I'd like to see pics if you have time.
Thanks Rick, have a great week too!

The garden looks great, our garden wend kaput a couple of months ago...right about the time the baby was born(imagine that). It is a good thing we didn't rely on it this year we would have been in trouble. Poor little rooster. Your eggs are beautiful, we got our first chickens in the early spring and they are just starting to lay. The boys get such a kick out of seeing how many and what color we will have. We got easter egg chickens and Wayndottes. The camera isn't just a tool, it is a way of life.

Congratulations on the new baby Michelle, that's wonderful!!
Isn't it nice having a few hens around too..those fresh eggs are hard to beat.
Thank you! :)

Thank you, Jeanie. She is truly a blessing.

We have really been enjoying the hens, they are so much fun to watch, great "insecticide", and the eggs are the best.
