Beautiful Day :)

lol I couldn't get this old U2 song out of my head all day......

It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away :)

The frost or snow was fluffy like a feather...

My snow angels weren't as pretty as some I've seen .. but I had fun making them.

I tried to find pretty snowflakes like Frugal Canadian Hermit Mark's... but didn't see any.

A total stranger came by and cleared my driveway... That saved me so much work!! :)

I was really glad he didn't come by while I was making my snow angels. lol

I gathered my snowballs for the 4th of July.....

even made a batch of snow ice cream......

Some know of my attraction to the moon. lol
It was beautiful, the snow was glowing in the moonlight.....

"It was a beautiful day

Don't let it get away

Beautiful day

Touch me

Take me to that other place

Reach me

I know I'm not a hopeless case

What you don't have you don't need it now

What you don't know you can feel it somehow

What you don't have you don't need it now

Don't need it now

Was a beautiful day"

Snow

The winter storm arrived yesterday. I was one of the lucky Okies that got more snow than ice. :)

The wind whipping the snow around, made some pretty good drifts.

My buddy....

More snow today.

The only traffic is a tumble weed rolling down the road...

My new parking spot...

If you look really close.... there is a dot....on the right side of the road, close to the top of the hill. That's my pickup.

I went in the ditch first thing this morning. At least I was close enough to walk home. :)

With the help of a neighbor and two ranchers who happened by, it didn't take long to pull my pickup out of the ditch.
This is the only picture of the fun... I was just too cold to care about pictures.

After pulling the pickup out of the ditch and catching up on news, we all decided the snowfall amount was about 1 foot.

Can't wait for tomorrow, it's time to make some killer snow angels and maybe a batch of icecream. :)

Winter Weather

It sounds like a winter storm might be headed my way.
I've hauled extra round bales of feed for easy access.
Arranged water troughs, pans and grain closer to where I will need them.
Filled extra containers with water for myself too.
I always have plenty of canned and dry goods on hand, that's just part of country life..
I'm hoping for snow with no ice.

Hope everyone stays safe and warm!

Woohoo, I see snow angels in my future. :)

A Parade of Deer

At about 5:30 in the evening, while I'm out feeding animals, a parade of deer pass by the house.

They have been doing this for a little over a week now.

Not sure if you can see them, they are in the bottom half of each picture. You might need to click on the pictures to enlarge them.

The deer bed down during the day and are heading out to feed for the night.

I've counted 10 does and have spotted one large buck in the group.

I stop what I'm doing to watch them and sometimes they stop to watch me. :)

Just a Heat n Eat Meal

Today was kind of busy for me so I grabbed a can of venison from the pantry for supper.
It's the original "fast food". :)

I heat the venison and thicken the broth...

Pan fried some of the okra from this summer's garden,

made a batch of cheesy biscuits

and finished the meal with some sweet cold peaches (to make me sweet)

The okra did make me think about my garden. I need to open my new seed catalogs and start day dreaming. :)

Pork Sateh

A talented smoking friend, Mike, from the Netherlands was kind enough to share his Grandmother's recipe for Sateh Babi with me.
The recipe has been in his family for over 100 years and came from Indonesia to the Netherlands with his family.
I feel honored that Mike shared the recipe with me....
Thank you Mike!

Some of the ingredients for the marinade....

sauteed onion and garlic...

the marinade.....

the pork soaking up the tasty marinade....

I used my little charcoal grill.....

Served with a spicy peanut dipping sauce.....

These were so good!! I didn't need the sauce, the pork sateh was wonderful on it's own.

I can't wait to try this with chicken, shrimp or ?

Thank you again Mike! I loved it. :)

Time flies when you're having fun...

I can't believe how fast this weekend went. Maybe the whole winter will fly by too. :)
I'm ready for spring!

Smokey White Wine Lemon Sauced Shrimp Over Pasta

Long title. :)

I browned a few bacon bits over hot coals, then added minced green onion and garlic....

added butter and some peeled, deveined shrimp.... closed the lid on the cooker and let them soak up some of the smokey flavor for just a few minutes.

I received a bottle of Zia's White Wine & Lemon Sauce from a talented smoking friend named Ashmont... (thank you Ash!)

I added some of the white wine sauce to the shrimp and let it heat through...

Also received a package of Farfalle from blogging friend Rocco... (thank you again Rocco!)

Between Ashmont's sauce, Rocco's pasta and my shrimp.. it was a tasty combination! :)
